remembering the ride home

I got on the bike and rode home. Average speed was about 18mph. Hills were easy to climb with the low gears. I made it home in less than an hour.

The brakes still need some break in time. And I need to fine-tune the front derailleur.

So I picked up the Dew Drop last night. Popped it in the car and went home to switch the pedals. I also added a wireless computer. I decided to take a quick ride to the next town over to get a feel for it before the big ride the next day to work. The bike was great! Smooth, quiet, fast. I can't wait for the brakes to break in; I will have more confidence then.

I rode the bike to work today, 16.5 miles. It took me an hour, which isn't saying much. But that is still 10-15 minutes faster than on my Trek 950. We will have to see how it does on the way home.

Kona bike

I went at lunch to try out the Kona Dew Drop that I ordered. My initial thoughts on the bike are positive. Brake hoods are comfortable, shifting is easy, the seat isn't terrible, and the bike feels nice to ride around. A couple things bothered me. One being the cheap feeling bar tape, the other was the poorly adjusted gears. Those adjustments will have to be fixed before picking up the bike. The brakes felt soft, but I was told there was a brake (no pun intended) in period for disc brakes. I assume the braking will feel more solid after a few miles of riding/braking.

I will have to go back for another look at the bike on Saturday.

Kona bike

I ordered a 2009 Kona Dew Drop last month. The LBS called me today to tell me the bike was ready for riding. I will go for a spin at lunch time.
